Carolina Butterfly Society

Triad Chapter, Carolina Butterfly Society 2009
Program and Business Meeting Information

Carolina Butterfliers:

We have an interesting program planned for the next meeting of the Carolina
Butterfly Society - Triad Chapter, Wednesday, January 14th, at 7:00 pm. The
program topic will be ŗBerries, Birds, and Butterflies.˛ Non-members,
friends, and guests are welcome to attend.

Our focus will be on native fruits that help sustain wildlife through the
cold months. We know that birds are attracted to berries and seeds
throughout winter. Where do butterflies come in? Although most butterflies
are creatures of the sun and warmth, our area has several species of
butterflies that spend the winter as adults. Wešll take a look at how they
survive the winter by taking nutrients from fruits and other sources. This
meeting will be another joint event with the NC Native Plant Society Triad
Chapter, so wešre sure to have a lot of good information on the plants that
provide winter wildlife food.

For the January 14th meeting we will return to the Southside Branch Library,
3185 Buchanan St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127, 336-703-2980. Wešll be in the
meeting room immediately to the left after entering the library.

The Southside library is centrally located and easily accessible from I-40.
Here are the directions:

From Greensboro, High Point, and points east:
Take the "new" I-40 West toward Winston-Salem (don't take Business I-40).
Leave I-40 at the Silas Creek Parkway exit (Exit #193C). The exit ramp stops
at a "T" intersection. Turn left onto Silas Creek Parkway and go about a
half mile to Buchanan St. Turn Left on Buchanan St., go under the I-40
overpass, and then up the hill 0.8 mile. Watch for the library on the left.

From Winston-Salem and points west:
Silas Creek Parkway crosses Peters Creek Parkway near the intersection with
I-40. Get on Silas Creek Parkway, which parallels I-40 a short way, and go
to the Intersection with Buchanan St. Turn right on Buchanan St., go under
I-40, and then up the hill 0.8 mile. Watch for the library on the left.

We hope to see you next Wednesday!
